Our most successful Elite Junior Championships ever!

our-most-successful-elite-junior-championships-ever

Late last month a selection of our junior divers from Inspire: Luton Sports Village attended the Elite Junior National Championships at the Plymouth Life Centre. This competition is the highest level of national event for junior divers, which also secures selection for the World Junior Championships taking place December this year.

The four day event saw divers and coaches showing off their hard work from the past 18 months and it was the most successful Elite Junior Championships ever for Luton!

Our team of seven divers, made fourteen finals (top six in the preliminary competition) and came away with six GOLD, four SILVER and two BRONZE medals.

After a spectacular show, Amy Rollinson has been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Junior Diving Championships in Kiev later this year. She will be competing on the 1m springboard and girls 14-18 3m synchro. Amy also won gold in the 3m synchro with her partner Desharne from London, silver in the 1m and bronze on the 3m boards. This will be the first time we have had a Luton diver competing at the World Junior Championships, and is a hugely impressive achievement to be selected to compete on the highest stage of junior diving in the world!

Luton also dominated the 12-13 boys, taking all four national titles with Jorden Fisher Eames winning the 3m platform and 3m synchro with Oscar Kane, as well as silver in the 1m. Oscar also took the win on the 1m as well as winning silver on platform and bronze on the 3m.

Skye Fisher Eames was crowned national champion in the girls 12-13 platform event too.

Lily Chandler made all three finals in the girls 14-15 event and came away with a bronze medal on the 3m. Even our Learn To Dive Coach, Katie Cripps, made the finals in both of her events and Lana Webb competed well in her first elites making top ten on both boards.

We are so proud to announce that after a tiring, and fantastic show, Luton finished second in the overall medal table, showing the huge progress our divers have made since our Head Coach Stephen, and Diving Development Officer Kirsteen joined the programme in 2018. Well done team!
