A £500,000 investment is transforming the gym facilities at Lea Manor Recreation Centre, with the first phase of refurbishment now complete and a brand-new gym extension open to members.

The investment reflects a commitment to listening to customer feedback, improving local leisure facilities and supporting the health and wellbeing of the community.

As a not-for-profit community wellbeing trust, we reinvest income into the facilities and services that benefit Luton. This latest investment at Lea Manor is part of that commitment, helping to create a better environment for people to become more active, improve their fitness and support their overall wellbeing.

A new space designed around members

Following customer feedback and requests for improved gym facilities, Phase 1 of the refurbishment has seen the former Small Hall transformed into a brand-new gym space, providing more room to train and an extensive range of new equipment.

The extension offers dedicated training areas and equipment to support a variety of fitness goals, from strength training and muscle development to functional fitness and conditioning.

New equipment includes:

• Functional training: A 12-metre sled track and functional training rig.

• Strength equipment: Chest press, shoulder press, seated row, hack squat, leg press and glute drive machines.

• Free weights and resistance training: New dumbbells, barbells and cable equipment.

• Bench and rack equipment: Olympic incline and flat benches, an adjustable decline bench, Smith machines and a half rack.

• Additional training equipment: Arm curl bench, lat pulldown, bicep curl and seated calf raise machines.

• Cardio and conditioning: A ski machine and air bike.

The new facilities give members more opportunities to develop their strength, improve their fitness and enjoy a varied workout in a modern training environment.

Reinvesting in community wellbeing

As a not-for-profit community wellbeing trust, our focus goes beyond providing leisure facilities. We are committed to helping people lead healthier, more active lives by investing in spaces and services that support physical health, mental wellbeing and the wider needs of our communities.

The gym transformation is an important step in ensuring Lea Manor Recreation Centre continues to meet the needs of its members and the wider community, both now and in the future.

Phase 2 now underway

With the first phase complete, work has now begun on Phase 2 of the refurbishment in the downstairs gym. This area will temporarily close while further refurbishment and structural works take place.

Some additional noise may be experienced during this phase. However, the new gym extension and upper gym will remain open, allowing members to continue their training at Lea Manor Recreation Centre while work progresses.

Looking ahead

We remain on track to complete the full gym transformation to include the downstairs, and upstairs gym by late December and will keep members updated as the next stages take shape.

By listening to feedback, investing in our facilities and reinvesting income into the services we provide, we remain committed to making a positive difference to community health and wellbeing of Luton.
