Safeguarding Statement 2024

Active Luton recognises that safeguarding children, families, adults and its workforce is a shared responsibility and is committed to creating an open and inclusive culture which actively promotes the wellbeing of all.

Although we recognise and acknowledge that children and adults with care and support needs are most at risk, as an organisation we also recognise that it is our responsibility to keep everyone safe and protected from harm.

Our Safeguarding policy therefore sets out the key principles that all employees, casual workers, volunteers, and trustees of Active Luton should be complying with in relation to safeguarding to ensure that all customers, including children, young people and  adults, team members, volunteers and contractors are protected from potential neglect, exploitation, or harm.

We aim to keep everyone safe by:

  • Following a robust recruitment process for all our team members and volunteers, ensuring  Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks are undertaken as appropriate, and that all team members are appropriately qualified.
  • Ensuring team members and volunteers receive relevant and appropriate safeguarding training in relation to their role and that everyone is trained in our Safeguarding policy and procedure
  • Ensuring that all clubs and hirers of our facilities have safeguarding measures in place as appropriate.
  • Appointing Designated Safeguarding Teams across our organisation who are responsible for safeguarding and act as the main point of contact for parents, families, carers, children, team members and external agencies to voice any concerns should they arise.
  • Responding swiftly and appropriately to all concerns or allegations in line with our safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Maintaining and regularly reviewing our Safeguarding Policy and Procedure.
