Leadership Skills Foundation/AfPE Accredited Level 6 Award in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership

This is a recognised qualification to improve the overall leadership and management of the delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary schools. The aim of this qualification is to enable subject leaders to support and upskill other colleagues in teaching the physical education curriculum. On successful completion of this qualification, delegates will be able to advocate, articulate and lead physical education to achieve whole school improvement.

This is a recognised qualification that aims to upskill primary school teachers and higher level teaching assistants to improve the overall delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary schools. Delivered over 6 days, on successful completion delegates will be able to assist in raising the standards within primary school physical education teaching and learning. 

Leadership Skills Foundation/ AfPE Accredited Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity

The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful delegates to be able to support the delivery of physical education, school sport and physical activity (PESSPA) through planning, leading and reviewing activities that contribute to a PESSPA programme in the school setting.

Introduction to Evolve for EVCs/EVC Administrators

This half day workshop is designed for new EVC’s and EVC administrators whose establishment currently uses or has access to Evolve to introduce them to the online Educational Visits Planning and Management System and associated resources so that they are clear on how the system works and how to use this effectively to support the planning, management and approval process.

Teaching High Quality Gymnastics

Length of course: Twilight, Half Day or Full Day

Aimed at teachers/NQTs, Teaching Assistants and Nursery Nurses

Course Description

This course will raise the confidence of staff to teach high quality gymnastics lessons. It will focus on the EYFS and national Curriculum requirements and will enable staff to develop skills and sequences from the floor onto small and large apparatus. It will look at how a variety of resources can be integrated into existing schemes of work and raise awareness of health and safety when teaching gymnastics.

Course Objectives

Staff will:

• Understand the requirements of the EYFS and National Curriculum in gymnastics.

• Understand how a variety of resources can be integrated into your schemes of work for gymnastics.

• Be aware of the health and safety implications when teaching gymnastics.

EVC Revalidation Training for Existing EVC’s

EVC’s are expected to revalidate their training every 3 years. This course/workshop is therefore designed for existing EVC’s who have previously completed their one day OEAP accredited EVC training and are due for revalidation.  The session will provide delegates with an opportunity to revisit their role and responsibilities as the EVC in relation to quality assurance and compliance, review the planning process and share best practice.

In addition to these, bespoke school-based CPD opportunities, such as visit leader training, can be delivered to meet the needs of individual schools.

Teaching High Quality Dance

Recommended for: Teachers/NQTs Teaching Assistants and Nursery Nurses

This course aims to develop the confidence and knowledge of staff to teach high quality Dance lessons, giving them the language of dance which is the basis for all dance movement. The course will also include ideas for future schemes of work.

Staff will:

  • Be provided with the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality dance.

It will focus on the EYFS and National Curriculum requirements and will enable staff to identify what they need to do to help their pupils achieve in the different types of games.   The course will also provide staff with a bank of ideas and resources that they can use in lessons.

Staff will:

  • Be provided with the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality games.

Teaching High Quality Athletics

Recommended for: Teachers/NQTs Teaching Assistants and Nursery Nurses

This course will develop the confidence and knowledge of staff to teach high quality athletics lessons. It will provide staff with the skills to teach running, jumping and throwing and a bank of ideas and resources that they can use in lessons.

Staff will:

  • Understand the requirements of the EYFS and National Curriculum in athletics.
  • Have an understanding of the fundamental movement skills that underpin athletics.
  • Have an understanding of safe and inclusive teaching methodology.

Teaching High Quality Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

Recommended for: Teachers/NQTs Teaching Assistants

This course will develop the confidence and knowledge of staff to teach high quality OAA lessons. It will focus on the National Curriculum requirements for OAA and will provide staff with a bank of ideas and resources that they can use in OAA within their own school setting.

Staff will:

  • Understand the requirements of the EYFS and National Curriculum in OAA
  • Be provided with the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality OAA.

Health and Safety in Gymnastics

Recommended for: Teachers/NQTs Teaching Assistants and Nursery Nurses

This course will provide staff with the knowledge and confidence to safely deliver gymnastics lessons, including the handling of apparatus. All advice will adhere to AfPE’s Safe Practice in PE guidelines.

Staff will:

  • Be aware of the health and safety implications when teaching gymnastics.
  • Be confident in supervising the lifting and carrying of all apparatus safely.
  • Be able to use equipment safely and creatively in lessons to extend the work of the pupils.

Teaching Fundamental Movement Skills to Reception and Key Stage One Children

Recommended for: Early Years and KS1 Teachers/NQTs/Teaching Assistants

This course will introduce the principles of movement based upon the building of core skills which are used in many sports. The establishment of good movement skills at a young age and an understanding of how to control the body are vital. These core skills are developed using a multi-skill approach, specifically agility, balance and co-ordination.

Staff will:

  • Develop the confidence and knowledge to teach high quality PE lessons by adopting and using the principles of fundamental  movement skills.

Promoting Positive Play and Behaviour at Lunchtimes

Recommended for: Lunchtime Supervisors/ Teachers

A well-managed lunchtime period can provide a key opportunity for developing and maintaining high quality learning in areas of personal, social and physical skills. This course for lunchtime supervisors can be tailored to the needs of your school and can include behaviour, management, managing conflict, organising safe playground games and ideas. This course includes a practical experience.

Staff will:

  • Have a clear understanding of the benefits of effective play management during lunchtime.
  • Have a bank of practical ideas and resources for use during lunchtimes to meet the needs of all young people.
  • Have a clear vision of how they can implement successful strategies for effective lunchtime play in their school.

Literacy in Action

Recommended for: Teachers/NQTs, Teaching Assistants

This course will look at improving pupils’ learning and attainment in literacy through using practical activities and is an excellent way to include active learning within a creative curriculum. This course includes practical experience.

Staff will:

  • Have an understanding of the benefits of literacy in action and how it can be used to meet the different learning styles of their children.
  • Experience a range of practical activities linked to literacy.
  • Increase their confidence in supporting the delivery of the Literacy National Curriculum.

Numeracy in Action

This course will look at improving pupils’ learning and attainment in numeracy through using practical activities. This is an excellent way to include active learning within a creative curriculum. This course includes a practical experience.

Staff will:

  • Have an understanding of the benefits of numeracy in action and how it can be used to meet the different learning styles of their children.
  • Experience a range of practical activities linked to numeracy.
  • Increase their confidence in supporting the delivery of the numeracy National Curriculum.
