Our Active Education team are working with Barnfield College and Luton Borough Council to deliver a 5 day programme to SEN students. It has been specifically developed to enable these young adults to become more independent, offering them a wide range of experiences in the local community.

We deliver weekly ‘Healthy Lifestyle’ workshops, give them access to the gym, we support them with independent travel and are providing them with work experience.

One of their tasks has been to lead on a primary school Boccia competition, helping them to develop organisation, communication and leadership skills. As part of the setup, the students had to plan a trip to the town centre, visit Central Library and shop for their own lunch. All of these skills are intended to help them become more independent and confident adults.

Additionally, they will be carrying out work experience at some of Active Luton’s sites including Inspire: Luton Sports Village, Stockwood Park Athletics Centre, Stockwood Park Golf Centre and Central Library.

The Active Education team regularly attend secondary and primary schools, helping to raise awareness of career opportunities within the sport, leisure and wellbeing sectors. Careers Workshops are organised both within the academic setting and within Active Luton sites, designed to help young people understand what job roles are available to them, plus give them experience of the inner workings of running essential facilities like leisure / golf centres and libraries.
