First Aid at Work Course Level 3

The RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 First Aid at Work Qualification covers a wide range of CPR and first aid skills, equipping the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illness and providing them with the skills to ensure a safe working environment.

The qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for three years, making it suitable for all industries and enabling you to meet HSE requirements.

The First Aid at Work course is 18 hours and can be delivered over three consecutive days or can be split into smaller sessions and delivered over a maximum 10 week period from the start of the course.

The course comprises practical work and theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid.

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment.
  • No prior first aid knowledge is required.
  • Must be able to undertake practical activity involving kneeling and lying down.
  • All Active Luton courses are delivered and assessed in English. Tutors must be convinced that you have sufficient fluency in written and spoken English to cope with your course from the start.

Recommended for: Everyone

First Aid at Work is trainer assessed throughout the course and the assessment should determine a candidate’s ability to act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency occurs at work and to deal with a casualty.

All Assessment criteria in the units must be achieved. This will include practical demonstrations and 2 multiple choice exam papers.

A 2 hour accredited anaphylaxis bolt-on module, is available for this course.

First Aid at Work Renewal Course Level 3

The RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 First Aid at Work Qualification covers a wide range of CPR and first aid skills, equipping the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illness and providing them with the skills to ensure a safe working environment.

About the Course

  • Hold a valid in date Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification, a copy of which MUST be submitted at the time of booking.
  • Must be able to undertake practical activity involving kneeling and lying down.
  • All Active Luton courses are delivered and assessed in English. Tutors must be convinced that you have sufficient fluency in written and spoken English to cope with your course from the start.

Recommended for: Anyone holding a current and valid First Aid at Work qualification.

Automated External Defibrillator Course (AED) - Level 2 Award (QCF)

The RLSS UK Qualifications Level 2 Award in Automated External Defibrillator- AED enables someone to give CPR and use an AED. The qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for two years.

About the course

The Automated External Defibrillator course is four hours and is designed to be delivered in one day. The course comprises practical work and theoretical classroom work, including practical assessment on CPR and AED.

Pre-Requisites

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment.
  • No prior knowledge is required. Must be able to undertake practical activity involving kneeling and lying down.
  • All Active Luton courses are delivered and assessed in English. Tutors must be convinced that you have sufficient fluency in written and spoken English to cope with your course from the start.

Recommended for: Everyone

Course Content

A range of subjects are covered including:

  • Assessing an incident
  • Manging an unresponsive casualty
  • CPR including AED
  • Pocket mask
  • Recovery position
  • Safety consideration with an AED

  • Automated External Defibrillator is Trainer Assessed throughout the course and the assessment should determine a candidate’s ability to act safely, promptly and effectively to deal with a casualty suffering a cardiac arrest.

All criteria must be achieved to be awarded the qualification.

First Aid Workshops

This Fist Aid Workshop aims to equip candidates with basic skills and knowledge to enable them to deliver basic life support or carry out basic First Aid actions until further qualified medical assistance is available.

Please note this is not a formal First Aid qualification.

Course Name: Workshop Basic Life Support Skills

Course Format

Candidates are required to undertake a 2 hour training session which can be delivered in a variety of formats.

Recommended for: Staff with a responsibility to assist qualified First Aiders in the workplace which may include teachers, leaders, care workers and supervisors or qualified first aiders who wish to refresh existing First Aid Skills.

Assessment

Informal ongoing assessment throughout the course with a final assessment:

Demonstration of Basic Life Support skills (adult and/or child)

Treatment & Care of an Unconscious Casualty

Demonstration of the ability to Control Bleeding

Course Content: 

  • Action in an Emergency situation
  • Casualty Management and Casualty Care
  • Recognition and treatment of miscellaneous minor injuries or medical conditions as determined by candidates
  • Management of an Unconscious Casualty
  • Basic Life Support - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - Adult/Child
  • Control of Bleeding - Including basic bandaging/dressing techniques

Pre-Requisites

  • Candidates must be at least 16 years of age at the commencement of the course
  • Must be able to undertake practical activity involving kneeling and lying down
  • All Active Luton courses are delivered and assessed in English. Tutors must be convinced that you have sufficient fluency in written and spoken English to cope with your course from the start.

Upon successful completion of the course candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

First Aid Workshops – Annual Skills Update 

The HSE recommend that all 'First Aiders' attend annual refresher training on the basis of evidence that First Aid skills fade. 

This training applies to all holders who have attended the First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work training courses.

This course will highlight any changes in techniques which have been adopted since they attended their qualification course. It assesses the skills and the underpinning knowledge of each candidate and gives them the opportunity to practise these skills required to carry out First Aid within the workplace.

Course Format

Half Day (3 hours contact)

Recommended for: Anyone who is required to hold a First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work qualification within their designated workplace.

Assessment

Candidates will be trained and Assessed by HSE Approved Trainer Assessors throughout the duration of the training course. Candidates will be required to demonstrate a number of practical skills and answer questions designed to test underpinning knowledge.

Paediatric First Aid Level 3

Infant and Child Resuscitation Workshop: Basic Life Support Skills

A workshop developed by Active Luton to assist parents to gain a basic knowledge and understanding of what to do if your baby stops breathing, to encourage participation and the learning of the basic skills associated with infant and child resuscitation. The aim is to equip participants with an awareness of the basic skills and knowledge to enable them to deliver lifesaving actions until further qualified medical assistance is available.

Dates & Venues

This is a bespoke course and can be run either in Active Luton Venues or your venue.

A 2 hour workshop which can be delivered in a variety of formats to suit the needs of participants.

Recommended for: Parents, Grandparents, baby sitters and young people who wish to learn basic resuscitation skills.

Assessment

There is no formal assessment, participants will get the opportunity to have a go and will be guided by the trainer throughout the workshop to learn and demonstrate:

  • Basic life support skills (Infant and Child) - Not breathing
  • Moving and Handling of a breathing but unconscious casualty
  • Diagnosis and treatment of Choking
  • Diagnosis and treatment of Drowning

Course Content

Theory to include:

  • Techniques required for resuscitating infants and children (non-breathing)
  • Action in an Emergency situation
  • Personal Safety
  • Casualty Management
  • Recognition and treatment of Choking
  • Recognition and treatment of Drowning

Practical to include:

Certification Qualification

First Aid for Children (Schools)

Course Details

Designed for delivery in schools and aimed specifically at children, our First Aid for Children programme teaches children a basic knowledge of First Aid.  It can be adapted according to the time available and number of classes/pupils and is fully cross-referenced with the National Curriculum.

The programme is designed to teach children the principles of recognising various medical emergencies and how to keep a person safe until help arrives. Programmes can be tailored to schools’ individual requirements and content adapted for children from reception up to year 11 to include topics such as anatomy and physiology.

Sample programmes

45 minute/ 1 hour session for up to 30 children (with TA support from school):

  • Casualty assessment and calling for assistance
  • Obtaining an airway
  • Checking for breathing
  • Putting a breathing casualty into the recovery position
  • Demonstration and participation of CPR on a non-breathing casualty
  • Putting on a basic bandage / dressing

45 minute/ one hour session with no TA support (maximum 16 per session):

  • Casualty assessment and calling for assistance
  • Obtaining an airway
  • Checking for breathing
  • Putting a breathing casualty into the recovery position
  • Observe a demonstration of CPR
