Level 2 Award Mental Health Awareness

The purpose of the Mental Health Awareness qualification is to provide learners with an understanding and awareness of mental health, as well as the common mental health disorders and issues. This is to help reduce both stigma and discrimination, encouraging people to talk about mental health more openly.

Furthermore, the mental health awareness qualification will provide learners with the ability to apply their knowledge, through recognising and responding to the signs of mental ill health in both themselves and others, as well as being able to offer mental health first aid to those experiencing mental ill health. This is an excellent way to bolster knowledge around mental ill health.

About the course

The Active IQ Level 2 Mental Health Awareness course is delivered via 2 workshops, followed by elearning.

Hard copy manuals are provided and 2 x online assessments are completed to successfully gain the qualification

Pre-requisites

  • Learners aged 16+
  • Learners wishing to improve their knowledge and awareness of mental health and mental health first aid.

Active IQ Award in Assisting Health Related Activity Sessions - Level 1

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to assist with planning, preparing and delivering a safe and effective activity session for a group of participants.

The course can be delivered over 4 days of face-to-face contact with assignments and worksheets to be completed along the way. This is assessed by the tutor and verified by an internal quality assurance assessor before certification can be claimed.

Recommended for

  • Children aged 14+/Key stage 4
  • School leavers and those returning to education
  • Those considering a career in the sport and recreation industry
  • Anyone wishing to improve their knowledge of delivering activity sessions

Course content

  • Basic understanding of how to promote safety during activity sessions
  • Identify and deal with hazards and reduce risks in an activity environment
  • Overview of the links between activity, health and fitness
  • Assisting with the planning and preparing of an activity session plan
  • Basic skills in assisting with the delivery of a safe and effective activity session

Pre-Requisites

  • 14 years +
  • No specific experience required

Assessment

Learners must achieve both units which include course work, worksheets and practical demonstration.

It is recommended that holders of this qualification should attend CPD training to reduce the impact of skills fade.

Active IQ Certificate in Leading Health Related Activity Sessions - Level 2

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to plan, prepare and deliver a safe and effective activity session for a group of participants.

The course can be delivered over 5 days of face-to-face contact with assignments and worksheets to be completed along the way. 

Recommended for: 

  • Children aged 14+/Key stage 4
  • School leavers and those returning to education
  • Those considering a career in the sport and recreation industry
  • Anyone wishing to improve their knowledge of delivering activity sessions
  • Please note:Under section 96 of the Learning and Skills Act 2000 it is a requirement that all pre-16 learners are supervised by an adult whilst leading activity
  • 16-18 year olds may need to be supervised in the workplace, once they have achieved the qualification

Course content

  • How to promote safety during activity sessions
  • Identify and deal with hazards and reduce risks in an activity environment
  • Plan activity sessions which develop health and fitness
  • Prepare and deliver activity sessions which develop health and fitness
  • Review the effectiveness of the activity session
  • Action plan for future sessions

Pre-Requisites

  • 14 years +
  • No specific experience required
  • There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2

Assessment

Learners must achieve all 3 units which include course work, worksheets, practical demonstration and self-evaluation.

Active IQ Award in Swimming Pool Plant Operations - Level 2

Swimming Pool Plant Operations (QCF)

Type: Active IQ Level 2 Award in Swimming Pool Plant Operations

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to safely monitor the water quality and associated pool plant operations. The qualification is Ofqual accredited and regulated through the awarding body Active IQ. The course is delivered over 1 day of face-to-face contact time with a workplace assignment to be completed and submitted with demonstrable evidence to satisfy the assignment criteria (within 4 weeks), which is assessed by the tutor and verified by an internal quality assurance assessor before certification can be claimed.

Recommended for

  • Staff working in sports and recreation, organisations who need to be trained to a nationally recognised standard
  • Aimed at those who are responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of pool water quality and, safe operation of the swimming pool and plant.

Learners must achieve and pass 2 units (5 credits) which include course work, worksheets and a practical demonstration. After the course, candidates will be required to undertake practical assignments back in the workplace and submit evidence to satisfy the assessment criteria

It is recommended that holders of the qualification should attend CPD training to reduce the impact of skills fade.

Active IQ Award in Swimming Pool Plant Operations - Level 3

Swimming Pool Plant Operations (QCF)

Type: Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Swimming Pool Plant Operations

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to safely manage the water quality and associated pool plant operations. The qualification is Ofqual accredited and regulated through the awarding body Active IQ. The course is delivered over 3 days of face-to-face contact time with homework and a workplace assignment to be completed along the way (within 4 weeks).

Recommended for: 

  • Staff working in sports and recreation, organisations who need to be trained to a nationally recognised standard.
  • Anyone who has  responsibility for the safe and effective day-to-day management of swimming pool water treatment plant operations and taking remedial actions to restore ideal conditions
