Love group exercise with Active Luton

At Active Luton, we love being part of the community and we love being able to bring Lutonians from all walks of life together. Nowhere is that better shown than our group exercise classes. Here’s why you should give them a try.

Why choose group exercise?

Why wouldn’t you? You get all the health benefits of exercise, but they’re amplified. Expert instructors are inspiring and motivational. They also help you with your form and technique so you get more out of your workouts and reduce the risk of injury. They also ensure variety in the exercise routines week-by-week so you never get bored.

Of course, one of the biggest draws is the social aspect. You get that sense of community and camaraderie, a chance to catch up with friends during a busy week. Members motivate and encourage each other, helping each other stay on track with fitness goals. This means group exercise can have a huge impact on your mental as well as physical health.

Why Active Luton?

Lots of places offer group exercise, so what makes Active Luton special?

Firstly, we offer over 200 classes every week with our multi-centre membership. Even with our more affordable dual-centre membership, you still get over 100 at Lea Manor and Lewsey. Our membership prices are among the most competitive you’ll find, and you get plenty of bang for your buck. Since we’re a community health trust, we get additional funding and don’t need to pay massive bonuses to shareholders, so we have more available to invest in our centres.

We’re proud of our facilities, and we always smile when people tell us they’re surprised at how modern and well-equipped Lea Manor and Lewsey are on the inside, despite their vintage exteriors. We’re sure no other gyms in Luton offer such a comprehensive and great value package. People and families on low incomes can also benefit with our Go4Less Advantage offer.

As a member, you truly join a community, and it feels like one too. You won’t find any wannabe bodybuilders or TikTokers stopping to take photos every two minutes. Just regular folk from all walks of life enjoying their fitness journey together. Every Tuesday, there’s a group that comes to Inspire to do circuit training together. They’re not part of any class, they just organise it themselves. A bunch of them ranging from their 20s to 70s, supporting each other. That’s what we’re all about.

Highlighted classes

With over 200 classes throughout the week, you can be sure to find something that suits you. Whether you prefer fast and frantic or slow and serene, there’s something for everyone.

Our high-energy classes include Les Mills BODYPUMP, which are very popular. It’s the original barbell workout. Instructors coach you through motivational routines with great music. You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.

Another is Studio Cycle. Hop on a stationary bike and let the thumping music and motivational words of the instructor take over. It's a fantastic lung and heart workout with great fat-burning capabilities. Your legs will feel like jelly for a little while after but you’ll soon feel ready to take on the world.

Fight Klub is also legendary. Just bring your boxing gloves and get the adrenaline flowing in this high-intensity class. It incorporates different boxing and kicking combos with dance moves, all to fast and furious drum and bass music.

Of course, if you prefer things a little steadier, we have plenty of options for that too. Yoga helps you take control of mind and body through breathing and posture. You’ll develop flexibility, suppleness and general well-being. Pilates teaches awareness of breathing whilst developing flexibility and inner muscle support - great for toning the body and developing good posture too. You can also mix it up with variations such as Barre Pilates and ZEN·GA™.

Aquatic exercise is an effective and accessible way to get fit as water provides resistance but supports your joints. We have a range of aquatic group exercise classes. If you want to challenge yourself, try FloatFit, done on boards in the pool - a real test of balance and core strength.

No barriers to fitness

Age is no barrier to fitness and wellbeing at Active Luton. Our range of ‘Full of Life’ classes enable older folks of all abilities to enjoy group fitness at a slower pace. Activities include line-dancing and chair-based fitness.

We also welcome youngsters to get involved as soon as it’s safe enough to do so. We have lower age limits for our classes, depending on how advanced they are. Kids as young as 11 can enjoy a great range of classes, so don’t be afraid to bring your kids along if possible.

All of our centres are designed with accessibility in mind, and we offer plenty of options for people with disabilities.
