Sweat is a natural thing for both men and women. Our amazing bodies can sense when we’re overheating and begins a heat loss process through evaporation to help control the body’s temperature.
Research shows that when we reach puberty, sweat levels start to vary between men and women. Men tend to start sweating a lot sooner than women and in a much higher volume, especially when exercising! So why is this?
Well, scientific research has pinned it down to testosterone which enhances the sweat response in a male body whereas estrogen promotes lower body temperature in women. On top of this, men tend to have bigger bodies than women – the bigger the body, the more heat generated, the more sweat needed to cool the body down.
There have also been evolutionary theories suggesting that men sweat more because our male ancestors would hunt in hot weather, thus meaning that their bodies evolved to sweat more to help increase their stamina. However, another theorist counter argued that it was in fact women who evolved to preserve their body fluids for reproduction purposes.
