Emergency First Aid at Work (Level 3)
This course takes just one day to complete and equips people in your organisation to intervene in some of the most common and serious medical situations that arise in the workplace.
Attendees will also learn how to use a defibrillator to resuscitate someone. No one in Luton will ever forget Tom Lockyer’s cardiac arrest in December. Thankfully, he’s now on the road to recovery and has been working with the British Heart Foundation to encourage more people to learn CPR and defibrillation.
The course is designed to help adults and is typically best suited to smaller, non-hazardous workplaces such as offices.

First Aid at Work (Level 3)
This course is very popular with organisations as it’s suitable for a wide range of workplaces. It’s the highest level of first-aid training, going into more depth than the Emergency First Aid at Work course, and works for high-risk environments like construction sites and factories.
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.
The Red Cross recommends that any organisation with over 50 employees has at least one person with this training. However, if your workplace has a higher level of risk, or you have people working different shifts, you’ll need more than that.
The 18-hour course runs over three days and includes a range of practical and theoretical learning, and qualifies people to serve as a named first-aider for up to three years, after which you can book our 12-hour renewal course.
If you’re an individual, being trained and qualified in First Aid can boost your chances of employability, as many businesses must have somebody certified to deliver it.

Paediatric First Aid
Schools and nurseries, childminders, play centres, and sports clubs must have someone qualified in paediatric first aid available whenever children are present, whether it’s on-site or during an external visit.
The course covers many of the same skills and situations as the First Aid at Work course, with the addition of some other situations likely to affect children. It comprises 12 hours delivered over two consecutive days. It’s accredited by Ofqual and meets all the requirements for the Health and Safety Executive and OFSTED, and needs to be renewed every three years.
The Paediatric First Aid qualification also now covers anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction as a mandatory part of the qualification

Emergency Paediatric First Aid
We recommend that your staff only take this course if you already have enough people with the full Paediatric First Aid qualification, as it does not cover everything in the same detail.
It’s also a good idea for parents to take this course, particularly if you do a lot of outdoor activities with your children or they have medical conditions that make it more likely that they will get ill or injured.

Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid
To put it simply, this is the most comprehensive first aid course and is extremely popular with large, customer-facing organisations. It teaches the full range of first aid skills taught on the separate courses, including the use of a defibrillator. It’s ideal for staff members working in an environment with lots of adults and children.

Lifeguard training (NPLQ Generation 10)
Lifeguard training gives you access to a rewarding and well-paid career that you can balance around your lifestyle. It can be a stable full-time job or a flexible option if you’re in full-time education or looking for a side hustle. If you qualify as a lifeguard with Active Luton, we’ll guarantee you a job interview as a lifeguard at one of our pools. If you’re over 16 and a competent swimmer, you’re eligible.
Our Lifeguard course is awarded by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK qualifications) and regulated by Ofqual. It’s delivered over 6 days, usually within the space of a single week, and is valid for 2 years from your final assessment.

Swim teacher training
Teaching enables you to see the impact of your work like no other profession. As a swimming teacher, you’ll enjoy a physically active role that teaches children valuable life skills.
You’ll need to begin with the level 1 swimming assistant course before taking the level 2 swimming teacher qualification.
We’re always on the lookout for swimming teachers so once you qualify, you’ll have a great chance of securing a job straight away.
