First Aid for Children & Babies - Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid

The IQL Level 3 Paediatric First Aid covers a wide range of CPR and first aid skills related to children, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe environment for children and infants.

The qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for three years.

About the Course

Paediatric First Aid is 12 hours and can be delivered over two consecutive days or can be split into smaller sessions and delivered within a 10 week period from the start of the course. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid.

Pre-Requisites

Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment. No prior first aid knowledge is required.

Must be able to undertake practical activity involving kneeling and lying down.

All Active Luton courses are delivered and assessed in English. Tutors must be convinced that you have sufficient fluency in written and spoken English to cope with your course from the start.

Recommended for

Everyone, but especially, anyone who comes into contact with or works with infants and children, parents and families with young children.

Course content

  • Understanding the role of the paediatric first aider
  • How to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • How to use a AED
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
  • How to assess an emergency situation and act safely and effectively
  • How to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
  • How to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is wounded and bleeding
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child with a suspected fracture and a dislocation
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child with a chronic medical condition or sudden illness
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child with burns or scalds
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child with a head, a neck and a back injury
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child who has been poisoned
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child who has sustained an electric shock
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child who has been bitten or stung

Assessment

Paediatric First Aid is Trainer Assessed throughout the course and the assessment should determine a candidate’s ability to act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency occurs at work and to

deal with a casualty. All Assessment Criteria in the units must be achieved. This will include practical demonstrations and 2 multiple choice exam papers.

A 2 hour accredited anaphylaxis bolt on, is available for this course.
