Luton - we need your vote!
The high-profile Women’s Sport Trust #BeAGameChanger Awards, sponsored by Microsoft, recognise those individuals and organisations doing the most to progress women’s sport. ME TIME has reached the final three in the ‘Inspiring Initiative – Local’ category for its work addressing the high levels of inactivity among women in Luton.

ME TIME has engaged over 5,000 women in its varied activity programme which was developed following insight revealing:

• the need for activities in community settings in Luton where women already gathered and felt ‘safe’
• varied activities and programming to respect school and family commitments; incentives and low cost maintenance opportunities
• the fostering of an inclusive environment accepting of all abilities and with a relaxed attitude to clothing.

ME TIME’s diverse team of committed instructors and activity leaders, with a desire to make a difference to the lives of women in Luton, were another huge factor contributing to its success.

ME TIME also included the development of training pathways which has allowed women initially to build confidence and self-esteem and ultimately empowered them to become economically active as well as being physically and mentally active. This approach has ensured sustainability of the programme as some participants have moved from becoming volunteers, through to supporters, leaders and ultimately into paid employment.

Helen Barnett, Chief Executive of Active Luton, comments: “ME TIME is one of our most successful programmes due to the dedication, passion and commitment of our Community and Outreach Team to make a difference to the lives of women in Luton.

“We are now asking Lutonians to show us their support by voting for us to win this Award to get the team and the women of Luton the recognition they deserve.

“They have proved that an environment in which women are comfortable and where they see ‘people like me’ is empowering and motivating and, crucially, excellent for both their physical and mental health and wellbeing”
