We recognise the need to teach children how to keep themselves, and possibly other, safe in and around water.
We offer two awards designed to develop the skills children need to understand the dangers of water. Ask at your pool reception about courses.
Rookie Lifeguard (ages 8 to 12 – at least level 5 swimming ability)
A programme created by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) in association with the ASA . It is designed to explore water safety, looking after yourself and other in water and includes rescue and resuscitation techniques. There are three different levels: bronze, silver and gold with 3 awards in each level. Available at Inspire, Lewsey Pool and Lea Manor.
Survive and Save(age 12+ - at least level 5 swimming ability)
Also an RLSS award for older children. Survive and Save is also split into Bronze, Silver and Gold. Available at inspire.
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
This is a nationally recognised qualification required for employment as a lifeguard. Young people can start the course at 15, but must be at least 16 when they sit the exam.
