Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Level 2 (QCF)

An introductory level qualification designed to train individuals in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator AED. If you use an AED during cardiac arrest, the chance of survival could increase up to 70 - 75%.

Dates & Venues

This is a bespoke course and can be run either in Active Luton Venues or Your Venue.

Course Aim

To equip candidates with basic skills and knowledge to competently use an AED, a vital tool that saves lives in an emergency and can be found anywhere from shopping centres, work places, schools to village halls. Then to provide further First Aid until further qualified medical assistance is available.

Course Format

Candidates are required to take 2 - 4 hours training (dependent on experience and knowledge). The session can be delivered in a variety of formats.
This is not a formal First Aid qualification.

Who should do the course

Anyone in the workplace who may have arrived at an emergency situation which may include administration staff, teachers, leaders, care workers or qualified first aiders who wish to expand on existing First Aid skills.


Informal ongoing assessment throughout the course with a final assessment:

Demonstration of basic life support skills (adult and/or child)
Treatment and Care of an unconscious casualty
Demonstration of using the AED
Testing of underpinning knowledge

Theory to include
Action in an Emergency situation
Casualty Management and Casualty Care
Practical and Safe use of AED
Airway Management
Cardiac Arrest
CPR - Adult and Child

Practical to include

Management of an Unconscious Casualty
Basic Life Support - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - Adult / Child
Managing regurgitation
Recovery position
Use of AED

Entry Requirements

Candidates must be at least 16 years of age at the commencement of the course
Must be able to undertake practical activity involving kneeling and lying down

All Active Luton courses are delivered and assessed in English. Tutors must be convinced that you have sufficient fluency in written and spoken English to cope with your course from the start.

Awarding body: IQL - RLSS UK

Validity Period

24 months.
