The aim of the Level 5 Certificate in Primary School PE Specialism and Level 6 Award in Primary School PE Subject Leadership is to up-skill staff working in Primary Schools to support the delivery and leadership of high quality PE and school sport. Level 3 Award in Supporting the Delivery of Dance in PE and School Sport (Postponed)

Course details

This course has been developed in a partnership between the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and Sports Leader UK (SLUK). The qualification enables learners to apply the principles of dance sessions to a range of participant groups, supporting healthy lifestyles in early years, children and young adults. The qualification has been designed specifically to support the Health Agenda and to contribute to the overall health of school children both now and in the future. This qualification, in combination with other qualifications, may allow learners to deliver independent dance sessions as part of the physical education national curriculum. Please click here for details.

Course description

These network meetings will provide an opportunity for discussion and training in relation to current developments around Physical Education and School Sport.  Each meeting will address a training opportunity, include a chance to network and will provide subject leaders with additional ideas to take back to colleagues in school.

Course objectives By the end of the course delegates will:
  • Gained updates and training on current developments within PE and School Sport, e.g. Sport Premium, PE National Curriculum, School Games, etc
  • Taken part in Sport Specific ideas and training
  • Had opportunities to network and share good practice with colleagues

There may be practical elements to these sessions in which case delegates are requested to wear suitable and appropriate clothing. Specific details of each session will be circulated nearer the time.

Target audience All PE co-ordinators/subject leaders (new and existing) in the primary phase.

This course will raise the confidence of staff to teach high quality gymnastics lessons. It will focus on the EYFS and national Curriculum requirements and will enable staff to develop skills and sequences from the floor onto small and large apparatus. It will look at how a variety of resources can be integrated into existing schemes of work and raise awareness of health and safety when teaching gymnastics.
