Our Lewsey Pool swimming teachers, Tracy and Katie and lifeguard, Rebecca met 11-year old Cade Ewington today.
Cade and his parents just wanted to say thank you – for saving his life!
Cade suffered a cardiac arrest during a school swimming lesson and the swift actions of the team made a huge difference to the fact that Cade is now doing really well – after a stay in Great Ormond Street Hospital where he had an ICD (similar to a pacemaker) fitted.
Cade visited Lewsey swimming pool with his parents and gave our trio of heroes a huge hug. The reunion was covered by the BBC and Luton on Sunday as the Ewington family were keen to raise awareness of CPR training and the need to have defibrillators in all community settings like schools and leisure centres. Thanks to the Active Luton staff all of these vital things were in place, but the story could have been very different if it had happened somewhere else.
