Active Luton is offering everyone in Luton a FREE swim plus a 5 for £5 swimming voucher as part of a major pilot project with Sport England to encourage people to try swimming for their health and wellbeing.
People simply need to claim their free swim and 5 for £5 voucher* at Active Luton’s swimming pools at Inspire: Luton Sports Village in Stopsley, Lea Manor Recreation Centre in Marsh Farm and Lewsey Swimming Pool in Lewsey Farm. The voucher can be used at any public swimming sessions or aqua classes and can be claimed for every member of the household. Children under three years old already swim free with Active Luton.
The incentive vouchers are just one way Active Luton is trying to encourage people in Luton to take up swimming or aquatic exercise. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise. It’s low impact and accessible for all abilities and disabilities. It’s an excellent calorie burner and equally good for rehabilitation and regaining strength and fitness following injury or illness. It’s also a great fun family or group activity.
Active Luton Is keen to break down any barriers that may discourage people from swimming and a team of ‘Swim Champions’ are working at the swimming pools and in the community to answer questions and give advice and support to anyone who needs it to help them make the first steps back to swimming or to take up swimming.
As well as refurbished changing rooms at Lea Manor, poolside towel holders and hooks and the change to coin return lockers at all centres, new sessions and extended opening times are also being introduced at Active Luton pools – with more to follow later in the autumn – all in response to customer feedback.
Helen Barnett, chief Executive of Active Luton comments:
“Your Pool is aimed at improving inactivity levels and general health and wellbeing through swimming and aquatic exercise. It’s about making small changes that could make a big difference.
“We’re working hard to encourage people into our pools and feel the benefits of swimming and hope that these incentives will encourage all kinds of people to take the plunge in whatever way and time that appeals to them most.”
Cllr Rachel Hopkins, Portfolio Holder for Public Health at Luton Borough Council, said: “As part of the Luton Investment Framework, we want to ensure Luton residents have access to high quality leisure facilities. Active Luton’s Your Pool project offers better access to improved swimming facilities and programmes and is a great opportunity for people in the town to get fitter and healthier. I would urge local people to not delay and visit their local Active Luton pool now!”
Active Luton’s swimming sessions range from traditional lane swimming to leisure swimming without lanes for less confident swimmers and family-friendly sessions including Fun Time Splash and Family Fun Time. The newly revised pool programmes (depending on which pool) include more of the hugely popular Aqua Fit sessions, a new leisure swim with music, after school fun time splash sessions, more daytime swimming and longer opening hours for more flexible swimming times.
