First Aid for Children

Course Details

Designed for delivery in schools and aimed specifically at children, our First Aid for Children programme teaches children a basic knowledge of First Aid.  It can be adapted according to the time available and number of classes/pupils and is fully cross-referenced with the National Curriculum.

The programme is designed to teach children the principles of recognising various medical emergencies and how to keep a person safe until help arrives. Programmes can be tailored to schools’ individual requirements and content adapted for children from reception up to year 11 to include topics such as anatomy and physiology.

Sample programmes

45 minute/ 1 hour session for up to 30 children (with TA support from school):

  • Casualty assessment and calling for assistance
  • Obtaining an airway
  • Checking for breathing
  • Putting a breathing casualty into the recovery position
  • Demonstration and participation of CPR on a non-breathing casualty
  • Putting on a basic bandage / dressing

 

45 minute/ one hour session with no TA support (maximum 16 per session):

  • Casualty assessment and calling for assistance
  • Obtaining an airway
  • Checking for breathing
  • Putting a breathing casualty into the recovery position
  • Observe a demonstration of CPR
